Bacolod City launched its mobile vaccination drive against COVID-19 Thursday afternoon, August 12.
Dubbed as “VAX-i”, the mobile drive aims to make vaccination more accessible to the public, Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia said at the launching in front of the Bacolod City Government Center.
Vax-i is part of his administration’s commitment to inoculate as many Bacolodnons as possible, particularly those coming from the marginalized sector, Leonardia said.
“This is a classic case; if Muhammad cannot go to the mountain, let the mountain go to Muhammad,” Leonardia said.
The mobile vaccination clinic will target workers, like vendors and public transport drivers, who are unable to leave their work for a day to go to vaccination centers.
“They are those who are in the fringes of society. They cannot easily leave work and line up for long hours to get vaccinated. Otherwise, they will have no income for the day to feed their families,” Leonardia said.
“Our goal is to make the vaccination program more accessible to everyone so we can achieve herd immunity and eradicate COVID-19 as fast as possible”, he added.
Friday, August 13, the VAX-i bus will start driving around Bacolod with doctors, nurses and other healthcare workers on board, who will administer COVID-19 vaccines to workers in the marginalized sectors starting with the market vendors.
