Bacolod City disaster authorities on Wednesday, July 16, issued urgent weather warnings in anticipation of heavy rains while simultaneously launching preparations for National Disaster Resilience Month.
Dr. Anna Marie M. Pornan, head of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO), urged heightened vigilance from residents.
With heavy rains forecasted through Friday, Pornan has instructed barangay officials in flood-prone areas to:
*Implement preventive measures;
*Prepare evacuation protocols for prolonged heavy rainfall; and
- *Maintain 24/7 readiness with emergency responders.
All agencies have been directed to remain on standby for quick response throughout the forecast period, she said.
In line with the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM), Pornan conducted a briefing with various local government departments, stakeholders, the Bacolod City Police Office, Bureau of Fire Protection, and other partner agencies.
The meeting served to reinforce the city’s disaster preparedness efforts and alert government offices about the impending rainfall, she said.
The City Government is set to hold an earthquake and fire drill at the Bacolod City Government Center on July 31, the Bacolod City Communications Office (BCCO) said
The upcoming drill aims to ensure that all employees, especially new personnel, are familiar with emergency protocols, designated exits, and safety procedures during disaster scenarios, it said.
The drill will also serve as an orientation for designated marshals in each office, equipping them to properly guide their teams during actual emergencies, the BCCO said.
“While the drill may cause brief interruptions to office operations and government transactions, it is essential for strengthening our city’s preparedness,” Pornan said.*
