Bacolod gov’t launching affordable sugar program

The Bacolod City government is launching the SRA-BBM Sugar Program through the City Cooperative and Livelihood Development Office (CCLDO) at the Bacolod City Government Center Monday morning, April 3.

The program is being launched to ensure the availability of affordable sugar for Bacolodnons, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said.

The CCLDO will be selling white sugar at P70/kilo until supplies last.

Benitez had written to Sugar Regulatory Administrator David Alba on February 14 to ask that Bacolod be included in the SRA-BBM Sugar program.

In response to the call of the Department of Agriculture secretary, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Bacolod City would like to participate in the BBM Sugar Program in partnership with the Sugar Regulatory Administration through the CCLDO, Benitez told Alba.

The city government intends to avail 1,000 kilos of sugar weekly on a consignment basis, he added.*
