The Bacolod City government has so far implemented solar energy projects at the Bacolod City Government Center and in 16 barangays in the city, contributing to both energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.
The total capacity of these solar power systems is 1,340 KW. These projects are expected to generate significant energy savings for the city, with each barangay projected to save around 50 percent on their energy costs, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said in his recent supercity roadmap presentation.
The total projected energy cost savings is expected to be P14,974,252.32 per year, providing not only economic benefits but also contributing to Bacolod City’s commitment to renewable energy and reducing its carbon footprint, he said.
Bacolod City Engineer Loben Ceballos said the solar power installations are located in the following areas:
· Bacolod City Government Center: 400KW
· Barangay Alijis: 40 KW
· Barangay Taculing / DRRMO / Gym: 150 KW
· Barangay Granada / Public Market: 80 KW
· Barangay Villamonte / Gym: 50 KW
· Barangay Vista Alegre / Progresso Village / Evacuation Center / Youth Home: 120 KW
· Barangay Singcang Airport: 40 KW
· Barangay Tangub: 40 KW
· Barangay Estefania: 40 KW
· Barangay Pahanocoy: 40 KW
· Barangay 16 (Rizal Elementary School): 40 KW
· Barangay Handumanan: 40 KW
· Barangay Punta Taytay: 40 KW
· Barangay Cabug: 40 KW
· Barangay Felisa: 40 KW
· Barangay Sum-ag / Barangay Hall / Public Market: 140 KW.*
