Bacolod gov’t determining if JO volunteers can be paid

The city government is evaluating if it can pay some of the 1,500 volunteer job order workers in Bacolod, City Administrator Pacifico Maghari III said on Monday, October 28.

The 1,500 Bacolod City government JO workers without any official appointments are considered volunteers and will not be paid, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said on November 18.

Only about 3,500 JO’s officially appointed from October to December will be paid, he said.

“We cannot accommodate all because of the restrictions in the amount of budget that we have left for this year,” Benitez had said.

However, Magahari said they are now reviewing what is left of city government’s budget that can be used to pay the volunteers who actually worked and are expecting a resolution this week.

The masterlist has been validated so payments can be paid if the city can afford it, he added.*
