Bacolod distributes 67.5K IDs for seniors, PWDs with QR codes

Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez explains the use of QR codes  to prevent the proliferation of  fake documents and identification cards.*

The Bacolod City government has so far distributed 67,511 QR-code enabled identification cards to senior citizens and persons with disabilities in the city.

By integrating QR codes into these I.D.s, the city aims to strengthen data security and prevent the proliferation of fake cards, which can affect both business operations and government processes, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said.

QR-coded IDs distributed to senior citizens were 50,433 and to PWDs -17,078 across the city.

Aside from the PWD and Senior Citizen I.D.s, Benitez said the city government has also included the use of QR Codes in documents such as the Tax Declaration Form, Business Registration Plate, Tricycle Sticker, and the Land Tax Certification, among many others.

This initiative takes innovation to the next level to heighten data security and boost the level of transparency that strengthens trust between residents and businesses, ensuring that all transactions are both secure and verifiable, a statement from the city government said.*
