Dengue cases in Bacolod City have dropped by 47.6 percent compared to the same period last year, the City Health Office Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit reported Wednesday, August 26.
There were 389 cases and one death from January 1 to August 15, a significant decrease from the 743 cases and five deaths recorded during the same period last year.
Recent weekly trends reflect a general decline in transmission across the city. Health data shows 37 cases recorded in Morbidity Week 29 (July 19 to 25), followed by 30 cases in MW 30 (July 26 to August 1), 39 cases in MW 31 (August 2 to 8), and 24 cases in MW 32 (August 9 to 15).
Barangay Mansilingan has the highest number of cases at 47, followed by Handumanan with 37, Estefania with 34, Singcang with 28, and Banago with 26. Other y affected areas include Alijis and Villamonte with 23 cases each, and Tangub with 19 cases.
Pediatric cases account for a substantial portion of the overall total, with 278 young patients reported, comprising 149 males and 129 females.
Children aged 1 to 10 years were the most heavily affected, accounting for 155 cases (75 male, 80 female), while adolescents aged 11 to 19 years accounted for 115 cases (69 male, 46 female), and infants under one year old made up 8 cases (5 male, 3 female).
