Bacolod cops seize ₱28.5M in shabu in biggest drug bust in three years

Bacolod police seized about P28.56 million worth of suspected shabu in what authorities described as their biggest anti-drug accomplishment in the city in the past three years.

A 36-year-old woman, identified only as alias “Bongi,” was arrested in the buy-bust operation at Purok Fatima, Islamic Center, Brgy. 31, Bacolod City, on Tuesday night, May 19.

Police said about 4.2 kilos of suspected shabu were recovered from the suspect, who was identified as a high-value individual.

Bacolod City Police Office Director Police Col. Eugene Rebadomia said the suspect was newly identified and was believed to be a courier.

He said investigators are looking into the possibility that bigger personalities are behind the suspect.

Rebadomia said police monitored the suspect for almost three months before the operation was conducted.

He added that based on their initial investigation, the seized illegal drugs may have come from Luzon.

Police, however, have yet to determine whether a major drug syndicate is currently operating in the city.

Rebadomia said drug personalities have also changed tactics, noting that some couriers are now women because they are less likely to immediately draw suspicion.

Mayor Greg Gasataya commended the BCPO and allied law enforcement agencies for the operation.

“This is one of the biggest accomplishments of the Bacolod PNP this year,” Gasataya said.

He said the city government continues to support the police through initiatives to improve mobility, response, and operational capability.

The mayor cited the earlier turnover of 11 electric vehicles to various police stations, the deployment of a Tourist Police Unit, and the increase in allowances of BCPO personnel.

Gasataya said the city will continue to support law enforcement agencies in the campaign against illegal drugs and in maintaining peace and order in Bacolod.*
