A Bacolod City policeman was found dead at Brgy. Pilar, Hinigaran, Negros Occidental, Sunday morning, January 23.
Killed was Corporal Nestor Madelo, 37, of Barangay Punta Taytay, Bacolod City, an investigator of Police Station 5. He suffered a wound on his face and injuries in other parts of his body.
Initially, police ruled out foul play, but their further investigation showed that the policeman may have been killed in a vehicular accident.
It turned out, the victim’s companion, whose name was withheld by the police, was driving his multi-cab and reported to Police Station 5 that they figured in an accident.
Capt. Ryan Villasario, town police chief, said the inconsistencies in the statement of the victim’s companion prompted the police to look further into the case, which could have been planned, intentional, or just a plain accident.
He added that the victim’s companion left the policeman at the scene.
Villasario said the victim’s companion, whom the police considered as a suspect, may face charges for reckless imprudence resulting in homicide.
In 2015, Villasario said the victim was allegedly involved in a robbery extortion case that led to his arrest with two colleagues following an entrapment operation at Police Station 2, where he was assigned at that time.*
