Thirty-four barangay captains of Bacolod City are urging Mayor Alfredo Abelardo “Albee”  Benitez  to run for re-election in  the May 12,  2025 elections.

The barangay captains, in an open letter, said they  understand that Benitez  is contemplating to run for congressman.

Benitez is reportedly planning to swap positions with  Rep. Greg Gasataya who will run for mayor of Bacolod.

”We urge you, Mayor Benitez, to reconsider your candidacy for Congress and to continue your dedicated service to Bacolod City as our mayor,” they said.

Gasataya, who is on his third and last term as congressman of Bacolod, in a Facebook post on Wednesday wrote that he and Benitez remain united as they  forge ahead to elevate the lives of Bacolodnons by prioritizing their needs above everything else.

The 34 barangay captains, in their open to Benitez   said “we feel it is imperative to convey our strong belief that Bacolod City needs you to remain in your position as mayor – a role in which you have excelled and made a significant impact in just two short years”.

They said Benitez has profoundly transformed the landscape of Bacolod City.

”It has been characterized by genuine dedication, innovative programs, and a vision that resonates with the hopes and aspirations of our communities. Under your leadership, we have witnessed remarkable progress and substantial improvements that have significantly enriched the lives of our constituents,” they said.

They cited Benitez for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of Bacolod’s citizens.

“Your hands-on approach and dedication have fostered a renewed spirit of collaboration among the barangays, bridging gaps and ensuring that every voice is heard”, they said.

“Although you may be considering a different path, we wish to emphasize that the groundwork you have laid is vital for the future of Bacolod City,” the barangay captains said.

“Transitioning to a congressional role could introduce uncertainty into ongoing projects and disrupt the momentum we have built together. We must embark on this journey together, and we are steadfast in our belief that you are the leader who can guide us toward our shared vision for the city,” they said.*
