Bacolod City and 23 other local government units in Negros Island have cancelled classes due to expected rain caused by the southwest monsoon that is being enhanced by Severe Tropical Storm Bebinca, which was still outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) Thursday night.
Bebinca will enter the PAR Friday afternoon or evening and exit late evening or Saturday morning. Throughout the forecast period, Bebinca will remain far from the Philippine landmass, a Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration advisory at 11 p.m. Thursday said.
Thirteen LGUs in Negros Occidental, including Bacolod City, and six in Negros Oriental cancelled classes on Friday.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez announced that classes from pre-school to senior high in both public and private schools in Bacolod City were canceled.
As for the college level, cancellation will be at the prerogative of their respective schools, he said.

LGUs that cancelled classes in Negros Oriental are Dauin, Siaton, Santa Catalina, Canlaon City, Bayawan City and Zamboanguita, the Department of the Interior and Local Government announced.*
