The Sagay City Veterinary Office has intensified its campaign against African swine fever (ASF), to maintain the city’s zero hog death rate status.
The local government through its City Veterinary Office is conducting a Bantay ASF sa Barangay (BABay ASF) campaign, an approach that aims to control, prevent, and manage ASF at the community level, a press release from Sagay said Sunday, October 18,
This approach was developed by the Philippine College of Swine Practitioners to ensure that hog raisers and stakeholders are made aware of how to mitigate ASF through applying sound epidemiologic principles and available technology.
Sagay has maintained the zero hog death rate since the outbreak in the province.
Mayor Narciso Javelosa urged Sagaynons’ cooperation and support to continue to make Sagay ASF-free.
A community-based symposium spearheaded by Sagay City Veterinarian, Dr. Modesto Canonero, with Sangguniang Panlungsod Committee on Agriculture Chairperson Councilor Perfecto Marañon, was held recently to intensify Sagay’s campaign versus ASF.
