Authorities seize P8 million in alleged smuggled cigarettes

About 100 boxes of alleged smuggled cigarettes with an estimated value of P8 million were confiscated by authorities in the coastal area of Brgy. Tangub, Bacolod City, Wednesday morning, July 2.

Operatives from the 4th Special Operation Unit of the Philippine National Police and Criminal Investigation and Detection Group- Negros Occidental arrested three people while their other companions remain at large.

Maj. Kart Bonilla, PNP-Maritime Group Deputy Commander of the Special Operations Unit, said that while they were conducting seaborne operations when they saw a vessel carrying alleged smuggled cigarettes.

They chased the vessel and coordinated with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Bureau of Customs, City and Provincial Intelligence Units of the police to arrest the suspects.

The suspects left about 100 boxes of smuggled cigarettes.
