Army and police operatives arrested an alleged member of the New People’s Army for seven counts of frustrated murder in Brgy. Buenavista, Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental, on Tuesday, February 6.

Arrested was Elmer Quillano, alias “Digoy” and “Onie”, alleged Finance and Logistics Officer and Ordnance of the Sentro de Grabidad (SDG) Platoon of the dismantled Central Negros 2 (CN2), Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros Cebu Bohol Siquijor (KR-NCBS), the 3rd Infantry Division of the Philippine Army reported Wednesday.

The arrest was conducted through a joint Law Enforcement and Support Operation (LESO) by the 94th Infantry Battalion and the police.

He was arrested by virtue of a warrant for seven counts of frustrated murder with a recommended bail of P200,000 for each count, the 3ID said.

The warrant was issued by Judge Walter Zorilla of the Regional Trial Court Branch 55 of Himamaylan City.

The Army said that the suspect is the brother of Elbert Quillano, alias “Carding”, the leader of SDG Platoon, who was killed along with his wife, Jessa, in an encounter with the troops of 94IB in Barangay Buenavista in April 2022.

MGen. Marion Sison, 3ID Commander, said that the series of neutralizations of the remnants of the dismantled guerilla fronts of the communist terrorist group (CTG) in Negros manifest the strong inter-agency coordination and collaboration between the Army and its counterparts in the PNP.

“We are doing this to ensure that all CTG members are neutralized in time for the declaration of Negros Island in a state of Stable Internal Peace and Security by the first quarter of this year”, he added.*
