Army: 8 NPA rebels neutralized, ten high-powered guns seized

The Philippine Army neutralized eight Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army rebels and seized ten high-powered firearms in Negros Occidental from Sunday to Wednesday, November 5 to 8.

Of the eight neutralized rebels, two were killed in encounters in Barangay Yao-Yao in Cauayan town on Tuesday, two surrendered to the 94th Infantry Battalion following a clash in Barangay Buenavista, Himamaylan City on Wednesday, and four voluntarily turned themselves in to the 15IB on Sunday, the Army reported in a press release.

Among the ten high-powered firearms recovered, two were seized during the Cauayan encounter, seven from the Himamaylan City clash, and one was turned over by the surrenderees to the 15th IB, it added.

The high-powered firearms include four M-14 rifles, three M-16 rifles, a M653 rifle, M4 rifle, and Garand rifle, the Army said.

The successive clashes in Negros also yielded war materials, including long and short magazines, ammunition, and an anti-personnel mine with a blasting cap, two portable generators, bandoliers, medical paraphernalia, personal belongings, and subversive documents with high intelligence value, the Army reported.*
