Animal Welfare Summit slated at BCGC grounds

The Bacolod City Animal Welfare Task Force chaired by Mayor Evelio Leonardia will stage the first-ever Animal Welfare Summit on Sunday, August 29.

The activity will be held at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds.

The event’s theme is, “Making Bacolod A Friendly and Safe Haven for Pets, Stray, and Pet Lovers Alike.”

The activity will kick off with a 7 a.m. motorcade to be followed by the program at 9 a.m., Ernesto Pineda, head of the local organizing committee, said.

The summit will advance the advocacy on responsible pet ownership and address the issue on the increasing number of stray dogs in the streets of Bacolod City, said Pineda, executive assistant and head of the City Mayor’s Office’s Sectoral Concerns unit.

There will be Free Spray and Neuter for the first 50 pre-registered pets, Free Anti-Rabies Vaccination, Basic Dog Obedience Training, Village Pawntry, and Give ‘Furbuddy’ a Home Program (Adoption Booth).

The program also includes talks on Responsible Pet Ownership, Basic Animal Rights, and Importance of Spay and Neuter.

Co-organizing the weekend event are the Bacolod City Police Office, City Health Office, City Engineer’s Office, and Public Information Office, in partnership with the private sector including the BACH Project Ph and PAWSsion Project PH.

BACH Project PH representative Sam Delai reminded those planning to join to “make sure that your pets are leashed for easy control to protect everyone from any untoward accidents.”

PAWSsion founder Malou Perez said the program includes their “brake for animals” massive campaign. “We will be giving aways stickers.”

The group has also requested participants to observe minimum health protocols during the event.*
