Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez is convening an emergency water summit at Green Garden at Villa Angela in Bacolod City 10 a.m. on Friday, January 19.

The mayor is calling the summit following the admission of a Bacolod City Water District- Primewater representative that they are faced with a water shortage, amid mounting complaints from residents of poor service.

Engineer John Arlan Canatoy of BACIWA-Prime Water admitted the lack of water supply to Benitez on his Isugid Mo Kay Mayor Program aired on FMR Bacolod 91.1 on Sunday.

Bacolod City currently has 75 MLD (million liters per day) of water, and is short 20 MLD, Canatoy said.

But Benitez said the BACIWA estimate is way too low as it only includes consumers connected to its system now and does not anticipate future growth of the city.

Invited to the water summit are representatives of Baciwa-Primewater, bulkwater suppliers, and the Local Water Utilities Administration, as well as the mayors of Murcia, Talisay City and Bago City to find a solution to the water supply problem, Benitez said.*
