About 3,000 tourists from Incheon, South Korea, are expected to arrive in Bacolod City early next year, Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said Monday, October 16.

Benitez said arrangements are being made for a charter flight that will fly the tourists directly from Incheon, South Korea, to the Bacolod Silay Airport.

He received a letter from a group that wants to bring in the Korean tourists to Bacolod from January to March next year for golf tourism, the mayor said.

“We are having a little problem finding an airline to fly the tourists in,” Benitez said.

Benitez said he has asked former Bacolod Rep. John Orola to find the needed charter flight.

A lot of tourists coming into the country are from Korea that is why Bacolod is focusing on that country, he added.

Benitez said he was told that Korean Airlines aircraft cannot land at the Bacolod Silay Airport because the runway is short.

He will discuss the runway concern with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, Benitez said.*
