“Age is but a number”.
That was the reaction of Negros Occidental Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson to the proposal seeking to amend the 1987 Constitution to open the doors of Malacañang and the Senate to younger leaders.
A resolution of both Houses calling for a constitutional convention that would lower the minimum age requirement for the president and vice president from 40 to 35, and senators from 35 to 30 has been filed in Congress.
Lacson said age is but a number it is really up to the people who will elect the country’s leaders.
“For as long as the constitutional convention will only be for that purpose it’s okay but there is always the likelihood that other matters will be included,” he said.
But he does not mind the lowering of ages, Lacson said.*
