A 29-year-old man was found dead after he was allegedly abducted from his home and later shot in a remote area of Sitio Capanuyan, Brgy. Minapasuk, Calatrava, Negros Occidental, police said Friday, March 6.

The victim, a resident of Brgy. Marcelo, Calatrava, sustained a gunshot wound to the head.

Police identified one of the suspects as alias “Toto” or “Eliot,” a resident of Purok Kawayan, Brgy. Minapasuk, who was with an unidentified male suspect.

The suspects allegedly arrived at the victim’s residence at around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 4, and forcibly took to the mountainous area of Sitio Capanuyan.

Authorities said the victim was shot in the head upon reaching the area.

The incident was reported to the police by the barangay captain of Brgy. Minapasuk at about 6:35 a.m. Thursday.

Police responders, along with the investigator-on-case and members of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion of PRO-NIR, proceeded to the area to verify the report and investigate.

Authorities said the crime scene is located in a rugged mountainous terrain that is difficult to access by conventional vehicles, posing challenges to the responding team.

The victim’s body was later retrieved from the remote site and brought to the Calatrava Municipal Hospital for medico-legal examination.

Police said the suspects fled the area after the incident and remain at large.

A hot pursuit operation has been launched to locate and arrest the perpetrators while investigation is ongoing to determine the motive behind the killing.*
