95 market vendors to be evicted for failure to meet rent deadline

The 95 of 276 fish and vegetable vendors at the Burgos Public Market in Bacolod City who will not pay their arrears by January 31 will be evicted, City Legal Officer Romeo Carlos Ting said on Thursday, February 1.

Those vendors were given several extensions to pay and will no longer be allowed to vend in the market, he said.

Their stalls will be raffled off to others who have been asking to sell at the market, he said.

Of the 275 vendors 86 fully paid their arrears, 82 submitted promissory notes, and 17 partially paid, Bacolod City Treasurer Arlene Memoria said.

There are 30 vacant stalls at the fish section and 11 at the vegetable section, she added.*
