A 9-year-old boy drowned in an irrigation canal at Purok Lopues, Brgy. Dulao, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on Friday, March 8.
The victim was taking a bath at the irrigation canal with his mother before the incident happened, the police said.
When the victim’s mother went inside the house to attend to her 1-year-old son, the 9-year-old disappeared and was believed to have been carried by the current, the police added.
A search and rescue operation led by residents was conducted at about 12:30 p.m. and the boy’s body was found in an irrigation structure in Purok Paho in the same barangay, which is 1.5 kilometers away from the victim’s residence.
The victim was brought to Bago City Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.*
