Nine more government employees in San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, have tested positive for the use of illegal drugs, Mayor Renato Gustilo said Thursday, January 4.

Two regular employees and seven casual and job order workers from various departments tested positive, he said.

The San Carlos City government has an ongoing drug testing program to ensure a drug-free workplace.

The casuals and JO workers will be immediately dismissed from the service, while the regular employees will be subjected to confirmatory tests, Gustilo said.

Last year about 20 other San Carlos government employees also tested positive for drugs, bringing the total to 29.

According to the police San Carlos City is a drop off point for illegal drugs from Cebu, Gustilo said.

When it is believed to be safe the drugs are then shipped back to Cebu, he said.

So when they are apprehended it gives a bad name to his city because San Carlos appears as the source, Gustilo said.

It is the job of the police to act on the matter and no one should be spared, Gustilo said.*
