Bacolod City has recorded its sixth dengue death of the year after an 8-year-old girl from Barangay Handumanan succumbed to severe complications from the mosquito-borne virus.
The City Health Office said on Tuesday, Oct. 13, that the child passed away at a Bacolod hospital due to multiple organ dysfunction syndrome secondary to severe dengue, dengue hemorrhagic shock, pulmonary hemorrhage, and unspecified sepsis.
The patient’s illness began on September 28 when she experienced intermittent high-grade fevers.
The other probable dengue deaths in Bacolod this year were two in barangay Mansilingan, and one each in barangays Villamonte, Granada and 16,
The CHO said Bacolod has had 891 dengue cases from January 1 to Oct. 3, a 1.5 percent increase compared to the same period last year, which recorded 878 cases and 6 deaths.
Barangays with the highest dengue cases are: Mansilingan – 105, Handumanan – 77, Estefania – 73, Alijis – 58, Granada – 55, Villamonte – 54, Taculing – 54, Singcang – 53, Tangub – 44, and Banago – 39,
The public is strongly urged to seek immediate medical attention at the earliest sign of fever, especially when accompanied by warning signs such as severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting, mucosal bleeding, or lethargy, rather than relying solely on home treatments or self-medication.*
