8 family members hit by Covid, 2 unvaccinated brothers die

Eight members of one family in Barangay Banago tested positive for COVID-19, two of whom died, the Bacolod City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) reported Wednesday, September 15.

The two who died were brothers and were both unvaccinated, the EOC said in a press statement.

Contact tracing data showed that the first family member who contracted the virus was the 39-year-old son, an event organizer, who died on September 1.

He showed symptoms such as fever, cough, and colds as early as August 25 and his RT-PCR test results confirmed he was COVID-19 positive.

His death was followed by that of his 35-year-old brother on September 11.

Their 68-year-old father, who also tested positive for COVID-19, only experienced mild symptoms. He is vaccinated.

The only family member who tested negative for COVID-19 was their 75-year-old mother who was also vaccinated.

From September 1 to 16, a total of 57 individuals in Bacolod died due to COVID-19, EOC data showed.

Of the number, 51 were not vaccinated, three were partially vaccinated, and three fully vaccinated.

EOC said that these figures show that vaccinated individuals have a lower chance of having a severe or critical condition upon contracting COVID-19, compared to unvaccinated persons.

As of Wednesday, September 15, Bacolod City posted a total of 1,508 active cases of COVID-19, data of Department of Health (DOH) – Region 6 showed.

There were 96 new cases, 28 new recoveries, and seven new deaths on Wednesday, the DOH said.*
