6 cities, 1 town in Negros 2022 SGLG passers: DILG

Six cities and one town in Negros Occidental are 2022 Seal of Good Local Governance passers, the Department of the Interior and Local Government in Western Visayas announced Thursday, August 27.

The passers are Bago, Himamaylan, Sagay, San Carlos, Silay and Talisay cities and Hinoba-an, town.

“We laud your efforts in embodying good governance and raising the bar of excellence in public service,” the DILG 6 said in a Facebook post.

Western Visayas is the Top Region in Visayas and Mindanao with the highest number of LGU passers for the 2022 SGLG, it said.

“On a nationwide scale, we rank first with the highest number of city passers and second in terms of provincial passers,” it said.

Negros Occidental and Bacolod City are not on the list of passers.

The passers are the provinces of Aklan, Antique and Iloilo, and Iloilo City in the highly urbanized city category, the DILG said.

The other passers from Region 6 are Passi City, and the municipalities of Malay, Ibajay, Kalibo and New Washington in Aklan; Barbaza, Patnongon, San Jose de Buenavista and Sebaste in Antique; and Anilao, Bingawan, Concepcion, Dingle, Oton, Pavia and Zarraga in Iloilo.

“I commend the men and women of the Sagay team and of course the past and present leaders of the city for their own excellent work and strongly encourage to continue what has been started in the service of our beloved Sagaynons”, Acting Mayor Arthur Christopher Marañon said in a statement.

SGLG is a progressive assessment system that gives distinction to remarkable local government performance across several areas and upholds integrity to institutionalize local government reforms towards local autonomy and development.

Among its assessment criteria are financial administration and sustainability, disaster preparedness, social protection and sensitivity, health compliance and responsiveness, sustainable education, business friendliness and competitiveness, safety, peace, and order, environment management, tourism, heritage development, and youth development.*
