52 DOH-certified centers offer animal bite treatment in NIR

The Department of Health (DOH) is advising patients to consult or seek assistance from any of the certified 52 animal bite treatment centers (ABTCs) across the Negros Island Region (NIR) in the event of dog or cat bites.

The DOH-NIR issued the reminder on Monday in line with the observance of the World Rabies Day on Sept. 28 under the theme “Act Now: You, Me, Community.”

“Immediately consult a DOH-certified animal bite treatment center if bitten or scratched. Rabies is deadly, but it is 100 percent preventable with proper action and prompt treatment,” the DOH-NIR said in an advisory.

The Philippine Health Insurance Corp. (PhilHealth) provides a benefit package that members could avail to cover for services against rabies in accredited ABT package providers.

The ABT package of PHP5,850 covers essential post-exposure prophylaxis including rabies vaccine and rabies immune globulin for immediate protection, local wound care, tetanus toxoid and anti-tetanus serum, antibiotics, and supplies.

In Bacolod City, the two ABTCs are Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital and Bacolod City Health Office; while there are also two in Siquijor –Siquijor Provincial Hospital and Lazi Medicare Community Hospital.

There are 24 in Negros Occidental, including Bago City Health Office; Binalbagan Rural Health Unit; Binalbagan Infirmary; Cadiz City Health Office; Calatrava Municipal Hospital; Cauayan Rural Health Unit; E.B. Magalona Municipal Health Office; Escalante City Health Office; Vicente Gustilo District Hospital; Eleuterio T. Decena Memorial Hospital; and Isabela Rural Health Unit.

The others are the Kabankalan City Health Office, Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital, La Carlota City Health Office, Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital, Manapla Rural Health Unit, Sagay City Health Office, San Carlos City Health Office, Silay City Health Office, Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Health Office, Sipalay City Health Office, Talisay City Health Office, Valladolid District Hospital, and Victorias City Health Office.

In Negros Oriental, there are also 24 ABTCs, including Ayungon Rural Health Unit, Bacong Rural Health Unit, Bais District Hospital, Bayawan District Hospital, Bayawan City Health Office, Bindoy District Hospital, Canlaon City Health Office, Dauin Rural Health Unit, Dumaguete City Health Office, Negros Oriental Provincial Hospital, Guihulngan City Health Office, and Governor William Villegas Memorial Hospital.

Also included are Jimalalud Rural Health Unit, La Libertad Rural Health Unit, Mabinay Medicare Community Hospital, Mabinay Rural Health Unit II, Pamplona Rural Health Unit, San Jose Rural Health Unit, Cong. Lamberto L. Macias Memorial Hospital, Sibulan Rural Health Unit, Sta. Catalina Rural Health Unit, Tanjay Urgent Care Clinic, Valencia Rural Health Unit, and Zamboanguita Rural Health Unit.*PNA
