46 inmates, 19 at talk firm in Bacolod Covid-positive

Forty-six inmates at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) isolation facility in Barangay Handumanan and 19 employees at a talk firm at La Salle Avenue in Bacolod City have tested positive for COVID-19, City Administrator Em Ang said Sunday, April 25.

The 19 of about 50 plus employees of an English tutorial firm with Korean clients tested positive for COVID-19 and have been quarantined, Ang, who is also the executive director of the Bacolod Emergency Operations Center, said.

The employees have a boarding house behind their office where they live and it is a bit cramped, Ang said.

The firm has temporarily been shut down while their work space and living quarters are being disinfected, she said.

The employees who tested negative have also been quarantined, Ang added.

46 INMATES, TOO

Ang said at the BJMP isolation facility in Barangay Handumanan 29 inmates also tested positive for COVID on Saturday and 17 on Sunday.

The newly committed inmates from the various Philippine National Police and other law enforcement units in Negros Occidental are brought to the isolation facility for COVID-19 testing, Jail SSupt. Gilbert Peremne, BJMP Region 6 assistant regional director, said earlier.

Those who test positive are placed in the BJMP Ligtas Covid Center in Talisay City for healing, he said.

Those who test negative are brought back to their jails of origin in various parts of the province, he added.

23 DEATHS

Ang said Bacolod City had 101 new active COVID-19 cases on Saturday and 84 on Sunday.

There have been 23 COVID-19 deaths in Bacolod City in April or almost one a day, she said. The deaths in April are more than four times the number in March that was five, Ang added.*
