The Provincial Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict has declared 43 barangays from 18 local government units in Negros Occidental insurgency-free this year.
They will receive P430 million or P10 million each in projects next year, the task force announced on Thursday, June 27.
Under the Support to Barangay Development Program of the PTF-ELCAC, the barangays that were declared insurgency-free this year will receive P10M each in projects.
The 43 barangays are from the cities of La Carlota, Sagay, San Carlos, Silay, Sipalay and Talisay, and the towns of Binalbagan, Calatrava, Candoni, Cauayan, E.B. Magalona, Hinigaran, Hinoba-an, Isabela, Moises Padilla, Murcia, Salvador Benedicto, and Valladolid.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said that the funding for these insurgency-free barangays increased because of better tax collection.
The Department of the Interior and Local Government-Negros Occidental head, Teodora Sumagaysay, said last year three barangays from Cauayan were declared insurgency-free and were only given P2.5M each in projects.*
