A 4-year-old boy died when he was hit by a pickup that was backing out of a grocery store parking area near the Burgos Public Market in Bacolod City on Saturday night, February 24.
Children were playing in the area and the 4-year-old was under the vehicle so the driver did not see him, Capt. Francis Depasucat, Bacolod Police Station 4 commander, said.
An initial settlement has been reached between the family of the child and the driver, Depasucat said.
Bacolod Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez said he will ask the Department of Social Services and Development to look into the problem of children playing in unsafe areas.
Meanwhile, two males died when their motorcycle driven by a certain Argie Flores of Barangay Vista Alegre, Bacolod, hit a center island at BS Aquino Drive, 2:10 a.m. Monday, February 26.
The driver and his passenger were thrown off the motorcycle and died instantaneously, the police reported.
The vehicle was travelling fast and the driver and his passenger were not wearing helmets, Depasucat said.*
