36K evacuees expected to go home as weather starts to improve: Ploteña 

Tropical Storm “Helen” was about to exit the  Philippine Area of Responsibility at 11 p.m. Wednesday.* 

The persons affected by heavy rains and floods increased to 157,077 in 25 towns and cities in Negros Occidental on Wednesday, Sept. 18.

There were also 36,638 residents still in evacuation centers on Wednesday, Irene Bel Ploteña Provincial Disaster Management Program Division (PDMPD) head, said.

The rains and floods were brought on by the southwest monsoon that was enhanced by tropical storms Ferdie and Helen and tropical depression Gener.

Several LGUs have reported that the floods were subsiding on Wednesday and hopefully the weather will be improving, she said, with Ferdie and Gener   having excited the country, and Helen on its way out.

Nine houses were destroyed   and 121 were damaged in Negros Occidental, she said.

Damage to crops was P32,789,025, fisheries – P1,781,361, and livestock P1,421,309 for a total of P35,991,695, Ploteña added.

Most LGUs announced that  classes would  resume  on Thursday.*
