In a move toward environmental safety and public health, the provincial government of Negros Occidental has successfully cleared hazardous hospital waste from its three largest medical facilities, Provincial Administrator Rayfrando Diaz said Friday, Jan. 30.
The Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital (TLJPH), Cadiz District Hospital (CDH), and most recently, the Lorenzo D. Zayco District Hospital (LZDH) have all undergone extensive cleaning and waste disposal operations, he said in a Facebook post.
Under the administration of Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson, the proper management of hazardous waste has been elevated to a top provincial priority, Diaz said.
Reports indicate that for more than 20 years, septic vaults and tanks within these facilities remained uncleaned, leading to long-term safety concerns, he said.
To date, the province has completed more than half of the required waste management tasks across its hospital network, Diaz said.
Cleaning and waste disposal operations will continue in other provincial government hospitals, he said.*
