Three transport groups are set to stage a transportation strike in Bacolod City on Monday, May 8.
The Bacolod Alliance of Commuters, Operators and Drivers, Negros Bacolod Transport Coalition and the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center will stage a rally in front of the Bacolod City Government Center to call for the abolition of City Ordinance 966 that adopts the Local Public Transport Route Plan.
The three groups said the route plan is the reason why they cannot renew their provisional authority with the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board to continue to operate traditional jeepneys.
Rudy Catedtral, BACOD president, said their transport strike will be successful because other groups are also joining them.
Former Bayan Muna Rep. Carlos Zarate said they are not opposing the jeepney modernization program but they are calling for a just transition.*
