The 6-year-old girl who was injured in a fire that destroyed her house in Purok Active, Brgy Mandalagan, Bacolod City, on Saturday died at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) on Thursday, May 29, City Social Welfare Officer Richelle Verdeprado-Mangga said.
The child’s 1-year-old sister who was not able to escape from the burning house died on Saturday.
The 6-year-old who was brought to the CLMMRH sustained third degree burns on both arms and her upper back, and superficial wounds on her forehead and nose covering 15 to 16 percent of her body.
FSupt. Jenny Mae Masip, City Fire Marshal, said the fire was caused by an unattended candle placed on a plastic box.
The mother of the children was at work and their 17-year-old sister and 14-year-old brother tasked to care for them had gone to a nearby purok fiesta, Masip said.
The two younger siblings were alone in the house when the fire broke out.*
