Seven villages have been identified as the location of the proposed 150-megawatt wind power project of Bago-Negros Energy Corp. in Bago City, Negros Occidental.
The areas — Calumangan, Napoles, Taloc, Sampinit, Busay, Balingasag and Lag-asan — have been identified in the notice of public scoping set on Oct. 28 released by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) Environment Management Bureau (EMB) in Negros Island Region.
“Public scoping is an early stage in the environmental impact assessment (EIA) process where the proponent aims to provide an overview of the proposed project, gather issues and concerns, and other relevant information to provide the scope of work and terms of reference for the preparation of the environmental impact statement,” the EMB-NIR said in a statement on Wednesday, Oc. 22.
The Bago project is among the wind power projects awarded by the Department of Energy as of March 31, 2025.
In July this year, executives of Thai-owned Sermsang Power Corp., the [project proponent, met with Mayor Marina Javellana-Yao, who expressed the full support of the city government to the new investment.
Sermsang Power chief operating officer Passakorn Panyaratanakorn said they have seen the potential of the wind farm that will be installed in Bago City.
“This is going to be our very first project in the Philippines,” he said.
A document posted in the power firm’s website showed that in November last year, Sermsang chief financial officer Chayut Leehacharoenkul sent an information memorandum to the Stock Exchange of Thailand on its acquisition of the assets of Bago Negros Energy Corp. “with an installed capacity of 150 MW at a total investment value amounting to USD250 million.” *PNA
