20% of WV youngsters not attending school: PSA

Four out of five residents aged 5 to 24 attended school in Western Visayas for academic year 2022 to 2023, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Monday, September 25.

The PSA reported that of the 2.97 million individuals aged 5 to 24 in the region, about 2.38 million were attending school last school year, 1.189 million of whom were male and 1.187 million were female.

Of the total children attending school, 4.2 percent were 5-year-olds, 26.1 percent were 6 to 9, 17.6 percent were aged 10 to 12, about 12.2 percent were 13 to 14 years old, 12.4 percent were 15 to 16, 14.6 percent were 17 to 19, and 12.9 percent were 20 to 24 years old, the PSA said.

With this record, 20 percent or 593,000 youngsters were not attending school in the region, it said.*
