2 teens die, 3 others injured in La Castellana road crash

Two teenagers died while three others were injured after a trailer truck collided with a tricycle along a curved section of the road in Hacienda Tipolo, Brgy. Camandag, La Castellana, Negros Occidental, Monday afternoon, Dec. 8.

The police said the crash involved a blue Kawasaki Barako motorcycle with sidecar carrying four passengers and a trailer truck owned by a logistics company.

The motorcycle was driven by alias “Tamik,” 53, of Brgy. Sag-ang, while the passengers were minors, two were 16-year-old twins, a 13-year-old-boy, and 18-year-old girl.

Investigators said the trailer truck was traveling toward San Carlos City when it tried to avoid a bamboo pole lying across the curved section of the road.

The evasive maneuver caused the truck to encroach on the opposite lane where it collided head-on with the approaching tricycle.

The impact threw the tricycle’s occupants off the vehicle.

Police said the 18-year-old girl was run over by the trailer and died instantly.

The four other passengers suffered various injuries and were brought to the La Castellana Municipal Health Office for treatment.

The 13-year-old boy, who sustained a severe head injury, was referred to a hospital in Bacolod City, but latter died.

The driver of the trailer truck, identified as alias “Ramie”, 35, surrendered and is now under the custody of the La Castellana police.*
