
Two persons, including a 9-year-old boy, drowned in the 5th District of Negros Occidental on Sunday, Jan 19.
The 9-year-old boy drowned in a river in Purok Gumamela, Brgy. Tooy, Himamaylan City.
The boy went to the river to retrieve a ball that fell in the water and slipped causing him to drown.
His body was retrieved by the Himamaylan Rescue Team an hour later.
The victim was subjected to post-mortem examination and the police noted that there was no foul play involved in the incident.
A 36-year-old man also drowned in a river in Purok Bay-Bay, Brgy. San Juan, Binalbagan.
Investigation revealed that the victim along with his friends had a gathering in the area, and he went to the other side of the river about 30 meters away from his friends at about 1 p.m. Sunday. 19.
When his friends could not find him they sought the help of the Binalbagan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (DRRMO).
His lifeless body was found at 8:30 a.m. Monday.
His family believes that the incident was an accident and there was no foul play involved, the police said.
ELECTROCUTED
Meanwhile, a man died after he was electrocuted in Hacienda Dalinson, Brgy. Alacaygan, E.B. Magalona, Negros Occidental, on Monday.
The police said the fatality was a 21-year-old man from Brgy. Estefania, Bacolod City.
The victim accidentally touched an exposed live wire on a post, the police said.
He was brought to the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City where he was declared dead.*
