Two linemen of the Northern Negros Electric Cooperative (NOCECO) died in Negros Occidental on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
In Pontevedra, 45-year-old lineman Sarex Alonso, a resident of Barangay San Juan, was electrocuted at around 9:30 a.m. while restoring power along the national road in Barangay III-Poblacion.
Alonso was working on top of an electric post when he was electrocuted, the police reported.
He was rushed to the Valladolid District Hospital but was declared dead by attending physicians.
Later that day, NOCECO also reported the death of another employee, Joseph Talaban, who reportedly suffered from a cardiac arrest while on his way to work.
In a statement, the cooperative expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the two linemen, describing them as dedicated workers and loyal friends who devoted their lives to public service.
“Sarex was more than just a dedicated worker and colleague; he was a truly loyal friend to many. He dedicated his life to service, and as a result, his honor remains unbroken,” NOCECO said.
The cooperative also paid tribute to Talaban, remembering him as a man of integrity and kindness.
“Joseph was defined by a lifetime devoted to service, a pillar of loyalty and a genuine friend to all who knew him,” the statement added.
NOCECO extended its condolences and prayers to the families of the two linemen, honoring their years of service and dedication to bringing light to the communities of Negros Occidental.*
