
Two incumbent city mayors of Negros Occidental were unexpectedly defeated in Monday’s polls, the Commission on Elections results showed Tuesday, May 10.
Silay Mayor Mark Golez was defeated by former vice mayor Joedith Gallego, while Kabankalan Mayor Pedro Zayco lost to Tan-awan kagawad Benjie Miranda.
Gallego won with 37,643 votes, while Golez garnered
34,725 votes.
Tom Ledesma won as vice mayor of Silay with 44,115 votes defeating Mykol Velez who had 19,059 votes.
Leading the Silay winning councilors in the number one slot is Ryan Gamboa with 34,946 votes, followed by Nonoy Penuela with 34,206 votes, Toti Lopez – 29,623, Ramon Celebre – 29,104, Darryl Hinolan – 28,666, Lyndon Bernardo – 28,208, Mike Maravilla – 27,012, Max Javelonna – 25,484, Demes Apla-on – 24,788, Allan Duca – 24,219, Enzo Locsin – 23,790 and Denden Velez – 22,176, Comelec results showed.
In Kabankalan, Miranda, who was also a former barangay captain, garnered 36,889 votes to defeat Pedro Zayco who had 36,611 votes for mayor.
Migz Zayco who garnered 37,773 votes defeated incumbent vice mayor Raul Rivera who had 25,790 votes.*
