Two homegrown talents from Negros Occidental will carry the Philippine flag on the international stage as they compete in the Precious of Malaysia – International Cultural Fashion Week (ICFW) in Kuala Lumpur on Aug. 17.
Jeremiah Gazo of Bago City and Steve Genzola of Silay City are among only six Filipino designers chosen to present heritage-inspired collections in the prestigious cultural fashion event, which brings together top creatives from across Asia.
Organized by FM Group Malaysia, the ICFW is known for its runway shows infused with cultural storytelling, heritage exhibitions, and gala nights featuring traditional performances.
Designers are judged not only on creativity and craftsmanship, but also on how well their works reflect cultural authenticity.
Past winners have earned the opportunity to showcase their designs in global fashion capitals such as Paris.
For Genzola, a self-taught designer and Ternocon 2018 finalist, his collection “Pescadores” is a tribute to Filipino fisherfolk, whom he calls “selfless frontliners at sea.”
The line combines colors, patterns, and silhouettes inspired by fishing communities with a modern street and sport look under his brand Primitivo.
Gazo, a member of the Bacolod Circle of Young Designers and protégé of Bago’s John John Ditching, is known for bold, culturally rooted designs.
His ICFW collection draws from the legacies of the Babaylan and the Binukot Princess, blending indigenous silhouettes and beadwork with sharp tailoring and layered textures for a contemporary streetwear edge.
The Philippine team will be led by national director Dong Omaga-Diaz, who is aiming for another strong showing at Asia’s cultural fashion stage.*
