
Two people were killed while five others were injured after a van rammed into a parked dump truck at Brgy. Guimbalaon, Silay City, Negros Occidental, Sunday afternoon, Oct. 5.
The police said the driver of the Toyota Lite Ace van was a 31-year-old resident of Bacolod City, who was found to be under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.
His vehicle hit the parked Isuzu dump truck driven by a 42-year-old resident of Silay City.
Initial investigation showed that the van was traveling from Sitio Lantawan toward Silay City proper when it overshot into the opposite lane and hit the parked dump truck.
The impact threw the passengers onto the road, causing severe injuries.
One of the passengers, a 24-year-old male from Brgy. Guimbalaon died on the spot, while another, a 23-year-old male from La Carlota City, was pronounced dead the next morning at the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Five others, including three men and two women, sustained serious injuries and were taken to the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital for treatment.
Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, while the driver remains detained at the Silay City Police Station.*
