
About 175 individuals who have deceased family members who were former social pensioners received cash assistance worth P5,600 each under the Unconditional Cash Transfer program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development in E.B. Magalona, on Wednesday, July 26.
The 175 recipients were given cash cards in a ceremonial turnover at the municipal gym, a press release from E.B. Magalona said.
The UCT Program is a government subsidy that provides cash assistance to eligible low-income households designed to help meet the basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing.
The assistance was distributed by officials and staff of the Land Bank of the Philippines, DSWD-Social Pension Program, E.B. Magalona Federation of Senior Citizens Association, and Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office.
The senior citizens are qualified as UCT Program beneficiaries, as provided for in Republic Act No. 7432, otherwise known as the Senior Citizen Act, the press release said.
Meanwhile, five families affected by a fire in Brgy. Manta-angan, E. B. Magalona, on July 24 also received assistance from the DSWD-Region 6 on July 25.
The DSWD-6 distributed family food packs, kitchen kits, hygiene kits, and sleeping kits to the five families, at the Manta-angan Barangay Hall.
Five families, composed of 18 individuals, were displaced by a fire that destroyed two houses and damaged three more at Purok 1, Brgy. Manta-angan with total damages of P1.68-million.
The victims were given food and non-food assistance from the DSWD Relief Warehouse in Bacolod City.
Mayor Marvin Malacon also immediately sent food and clothing assistance to the families on July 24.*
