A total of 170 individuals tested negative for illegal drugs during surprise inspections conducted by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) in two district jails in Negros Oriental on Friday, Sept. 19.
At the Mabinay Municipal Jail, authorities conducted a search-and-seizure operation, which turned up no contraband.
Random drug testing followed, with 30 jail personnel and 35 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) all yielding negative results.
Meanwhile, at the Manjuyod District Jail, PDEA personnel also found no illegal substances during the inspection.
Drug testing of 37 BJMP personnel and 68 PDLs likewise produced negative results.
In both facilities, PDEA facilitated lectures under its Drug Abuse Prevention Education (DAPE) and Drug-Free Workplace Program (DFWP), with over 100 PDLs and jail personnel learning about the national drug situation, commonly abused substances, and key provisions of RA 9165.
PDEA also promoted its advocacy programs, including the Virtual Gallery Museum, Operation Private Eye, and the MAKABATA Helpline.*
