A 17-year-old student was apprehended after school security personnel recovered suspected marijuana during a routine inspection at a public high school in Bacolod City on Wednesday afternoon, July 22.
The Bacolod City Police Office reported that school security personnel found three plastic sachets containing about eight grams of suspected marijuana in the minor’s possession at the school entrance.
The suspected marijuana had an estimated standard drug price of P960.
Also recovered were a black sling bag, a ceramic pipe, a pair of scissors and a disposable lighter.
Personnel of Police Station 5 responded after receiving a report from the school administration.
The recovered substance will be submitted to the forensic laboratory for examination.
Authorities said the case will be handled under Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, and Republic Act 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, as amended.
BCPO Director Col. Eugene Rebadomia said coordination among schools, parents and law enforcement agencies is necessary to prevent illegal drugs from entering educational institutions.*
