The Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) identified 17 barangays in Negros Occidental that are susceptible to floods and landslides.
Based on the MGB data released today, January 20, the flood and landslide-prone villages in the province are: Celestino Villacin and VF Gustilo, Cadiz City; Lalong, Calatrava; Canlusong and San Isidro, EB Magalona; Canlandog and Pandanon in Murcia, and Puey, Sagay City;
Bagong Silang, Bunga, Igmaya-an, Kumaliskis, Pandanon, Salvador Benedicto; Patag, Silay City; Cabatangan and San Fernando, Talisay City; and Barangay 11, Victorias City.
In the data, the barangays were also classified based on their susceptibility to floods and landslides.
Areas classified with “very high” susceptibility to landslides were Celestino Villacin in Cadiz, Canlusong and San Isidro in EB Magalona, Pandanon in Murcia, Igmaya-an and Pandanon in Salvador Benedicto, Patag in Silay, and Barangay 11 in Victorias, MGB data showed.
Those that have “very high” susceptibility to floods were Lalong in Calatrava, Canlusong and San Isidro in EB Magalona, Canlandog and Pandanon in Murcia, Bagong Silang, Bunga, Igmaya-an, Kumaliskis and Pandanon in Salvador Benedicto, Cabatangan and San Fernando in Talisay, the data added.
Zeaphard Gerhart Caelian, Provincial Disaster Management Program Division head, said the classification was the result of the MGB survey based on their geohazard map.
He said it is important for the localities to know the risk areas for their disaster and evacuation protocols.
