1,371 register to vote in first 2 days of registration resumption in NegOcc

A total of 1,371 people registered to vote in Negros Occidental during the first two days of the resumed voter registration for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), a Commission on Elections official said on Wednesday, Oct. 22.

There were 660 males and 711 females who registered to vote on Monday and Tuesday, Negros Occidental Provincial Elections Supervisor Ian Lee Ananoria said.

Bacolod City had the highest number of new voter registrants at 365.

The new registrants in the First District of Negros Occidental were 138, Second District – 199, Third District – 135, Fourth District – 135, Fifth District – 188 and Sixth District – 211.

Ananoria said the turn-out was low since it was only the start of the registration period that ends on May 18, 2026.

The COMELEC is still waiting for the Supreme Court’s decision on the opposition filed by lawyer Romulo Macalintal to the postponed BSKE, he said.

The Supreme Court’s decision will determine whether the BSKE will be held on Nov. 2, 2026, or in December this year, Ananoria sajd.

The Comelec is continuing to prepare for whatever the outcome will be, he said.*
