
Three people died in separate vehicular incidents in different parts of Negros Occidental on Wednesday, March 4, police said.
One of the fatalities was a 12-year-old boy who was hit by a van in Brgy. Tinampa-an, Cadiz City
The minor was crossing the road in front of a convenience store when he was hit by a Suzuki utility vehicle van driven by a 33-year-old man from Sagay City, the Cadiz police reported..
Police said the vehicle was traveling from Victorias City toward Escalante City when the incident happened.
The victim fell on the cemented pavement and sustained injuries on different parts of his body.
He was rushed to the Cadiz City District Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, a man died in a motorcycle self-inflicted incident in Purok Mainuswagon, Brgy. Guintorilan, San Enrique.
Police said the victim was riding his motorcycle from his employer’s house and was going to attend a neighbor’s wake when he lost control of the vehicle.
The motorcycle overshot the road and fell into a farm irrigation canal, causing the rider to suffer a serious head injury.
Responding personnel from the Bureau of Fire Protection rushed the victim to the Don Salvador Benedicto Memorial District Hospital in La Carlota City where he was declared dead..
In Manapla town, a pedestrian also died after being sideswiped by a vehicle along Hacienda Bariw National Road in Brgy. Sta. Teresa.
Police said the victim, a 30-year-old man, was fixing his defective vehicle on the roadside when a Ford Everest traveling from Cadiz City toward Manapla hit him.
The victim sustained injuries to his head and leg and was first brought to Dr. Ramon B. Gustilo Hospital in Manapla before being transferred to Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City.
However, the victim was pronounced dead at around 3:40 a.m. on Thursday, March 5.
Police said the driver of the Ford Everest appeared to be under the influence of liquor at the time of the incident and was taken into police custody.
Authorities said the driver initially committed to shoulder the victim’s medical expenses and the parties agreed to settle the matter at the barangay level, but the case remains under police investigation following the victim’s death.*
