
An 11-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a river in Sitio Buyunan, Brgy. Tampalon, Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental, on Sunday, Dec. 21.
The incident was reported to the Kabankalan City police on Monday, Dec. 22, by the victim’s cousins and a friend.
The victim went to the river with his cousins and a friend at around 10 a.m. Sunday, December 21, to catch fish.
The victim’s parents became worried at around 8 p.m. when their son failed to return home.
A friend told the police that they were swimming in the river when the victim reached a deeper area and drowned.
Search and retrieval operations were immediately conducted by the Kabankalan City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office with the assistance of the Philippine Coast Guard.
The body of the victim was recovered at around 4:30 p.m. on Monday with no signs of life.*
