11 Himamaylan brgys facing water shortage

Himamaylan Mayor Raymund Tongson deploys water trucks to barangays hit by drought.*

More than half of the barangays in Himamaylan City are now facing water shortages.

Eleven of the 19 Himamaylan barangays are now affected by water shortages, Mayor Raymund Tongson said on Thursday, March 14.

The extreme heat brought on by the El Niño phenomenon has caused even water in deep wells to dry up, he said.

Tongson said he is waiting for the recommendation the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council on whether to declare a state of calamity.

The city government is providing drinking water to affected residents and mobile water stations have been set up, he said.

A water filter machine provided by the provincial government has also helped, he said.

The waste water of the machine is also given to residents for their laundry needs, Tongson said.

Affected palay farmers have been provided with vegetable seeds, he added.*
